Door-to-door Salesmen

If there’s one thing Jason hates it’s school fundraisers. He’d rather write the school a check than allow them to exploit his children to make money for them. So when I signed the permission slip to allow Ross and Bryce to sell “The World’s Finest Chocolate,” he washed his hands of it and went to bed. LOL

The kids were so excited they got to do it! Even the girls jumped in to help. June set up a roadside stand and sat there selling on the corner while Avery and the boys went door-to-door. When the girls’ enthusiasm waned, the boys never quit. They sold 240 bars in two weeks. Ross knocked doors on one side of the street and Bryce knocked right across from him on the other. 

All they had to say was, “Hi, would you like to buy a chocolate bar?” And at $1 a piece, hardly anyone turned them down. 

One neighbor told me that neither she nor her husband was home when Ross and Bryce came to the door, but her teenage son spent his own money on their bars because the boys were so cute he couldn’t say no. 

My favorite part was how they babied the chocolate bars when they weren’t out selling them. They set up fans to blow on them around the clock so they wouldn’t melt. 

They hung the list of prizes they could earn on their bedroom wall to keep them motivated. Ross wanted to sell 6 boxes so he could throw mashed potatoes at the school librarian, but they didn’t quite make it. Instead he will be getting three mystery backpack clips, a fidget spinner, slime, a spiky bracelet and a popper hand. Wah wah wah.

The prizes were dumb, but the experience was worth it. Seeing our shy boys get out there and do this totally surprised us. In the end, even Jason came around and saw the value in it. Though he still hates fundraisers. LOL
